Did Fox News Edit Interview at Trump's Request?

There is nothing worse than a Reporter or a network than being accused of spiking a story or editing the story at the request of the subject.

In fact, Ronan Farrow wrote an entire book about NBC doing just that with Harvey Weinstein.

Former Trump campaign manager Steve Bannon told the special counsel’s office in 2018 that “Fox (News) agreed to cut out that part of the interview” after it was deemed “embarrassing for Trump.”

Now, this would come as no surprise if that interview was conducted by Sean Hannity, Tucker Carlson or any of the White House lapdogs at Fox and Friends. But, Bannon claims that it was Fox News Reporter Chris Wallace that did this.

Wallace fully admits that Rump asked him to take out his answer and Wallace fully admits that he did so.

But, Wallace says it was not for that reason.

Wallace asked Trump a question about Michael G. Flynn, the son of Mr. Trump’s choice for national security adviser, Lt. Gen. Michael T. Flynn. The younger Mr. Flynn had been fired from the transition team days earlier for spreading incendiary conspiracy theories on social media.

Trump asked that his answer being not used. Bannon claims “Fox agreed to cut out that part of the interview” after it was deemed “embarrassing for Trump.”

Wallace told The New York Times on Tuesday that Bannon’s accusation was “utter foolishness and completely misleading,” and that he had never agreed to any editorial changes at the behest of Trump or his aides. Mr. Trump did indeed ask that the exchange be excised, Wallace said. But the anchor said his decision to leave the question out of the broadcast had been based solely on the news value of Trump’s reply — or, in this case, lack thereof.

“If the president had made even a scintilla of news on the subject, of course I would have run it, and I wouldn’t have cared what the president had said.”

Wallace also claimed that one else at Fox News had any input in the editing process for his 2016 interview with Trump.

“I’m trying to set the record straight,” Mr. Wallace added. “I can understand people wondering. But there’s no there there.”

So there.
