Engaging With Yourself
/Oops….Looks like we saw behind the curtain at this Erie station.
You see News Director’s want their staff to engage with viewers on social media. This despite the fact that most News Directors rarely update their own social media, if they have one at all.
Anyway, someone at Nexstar’s WFXP in Eire, PA posted a question to their social media asking viewers what they thought about the halftime show of the Super Bowl, which was airing on their station.
OK, so far so good….right?
But, remember News Directors want to see engagement. They want your post to get reactions from viewers and if they do, it shows you are doing a good job.
Well, it is not uncommon for staffers that work in digital, to log on with a burner account and react to the station’s post. It shows engagement and the News Director doesn’t know enough about digital to know the difference.
There is just one small problem, if you are going to react to the post, make sure you have logged off the station’s account and onto your burner account before you post a comment saying you hated the show and turn off the TV while watching it.
That was one mistake the WFXP staffer did.
They posted the reply under the station’s account.
Oopsy…
