I Guess It's a Thing Now....
/I guess it was coming….
It seems that today’s TV news people feel that they must share every letter they get from viewers on their social media.
TV people have been getting letters from viewers for 70 years, but now it seems the thing to do Is share them.
KING (Seattle) Anchor Kim Holcomb got a letter from a very about her wearing ripped jeans on the air.
The viewer was concerned as to how the jeans are made and the fact that they don’t last as long.
The viewer did not mention Holcomb’s physical appearance, pick on her hair style, her weight, or anything like that. She just voiced her opinion about her jeans and how they are made.
Not a huge deal, but yet Holcomb felt the need to poke fun of the viewer on social media.
She then posted the letter, in which she blacked out the viewers name and followed that up with a picture of her reading the letter, in which you can see the viewer’s name, in a pair of ripped jeans.
Obviously, the viewer took time to write a letter to a person that she watches and admires on TV, about a subject that she is concerned about.
Holcomb responds by turning the letter into a joke and poking fun at the viewer.
If the viewer attacked her physical appearance, sure, go ahead and unload. But, this viewer was just bringing up and issue that was a concern to her and she is mocked for it.
I could not care less about “ripped jeans” and I’m sure that most you feel the same way. But, to this viewer it was a big enough deal, she felt the need to send a letter to Ms. Holcomb, only to be mocked.
Is this the way we treat our viewers now?
That is your customer of your station. How do you think that viewer Carolyn (yes you can see her name in the picture) feels right now, after you mocked her letter to you?
Maybe it is time we don’t have to post every letter or email that we get. Maybe it is time to laugh at the viewer. Maybe it is time we do the job and get a little bit of a thicker skin.
Just saying.
Here is the letter she posted, followed by Holcomb’s picture of her reading it in ripped jeans.
