Today is the Day

It seemed like it would never get here, but it finally has.

Election Day 2020.

While this might become one of the most viewed election nights in history, there is a very good chance that when the day is over, we still will not know who the next President is?

“We’ve told everybody not to plan on going home, and then we’ll come back to do it on Wednesday and Thursday and Friday,” said Marc Burstein, a senior executive producer at ABC News.

The Washington Post writes that many television news anchors appeared visibly shocked on election night 2016 as the vote tallies that would propel Trump into the White House rolled in from across the country. That misreading chastened the whole industry. This year, “we aren’t going in with any narrative or set of expectations,” said Noah Oppenheim, president of NBC News. This year, “being right is of absolute importance, and being first is less so,” said Oppenheim.

There are reports that Donald Trump will declare himself a winner before all the votes are counted.

This might be a good time to remind TV news people that social media will be ripe with misinformation and doctored pictures and video.

Before reporting anything, make sure it’s confirmed and keep your tone professional.

Also, it might be best for local TV news people to not tune into cable news. You know that will be a shit-show on both sides.

Lastly and most importantly….if you haven’t done so, go vote!
