It appears that longtime Peoria TV anchor Mark Welp is finally getting the chance to sleep in.

After years on the morning newscast, the WMBD/WYZZ Anchor has made the move to nights.

Welp is anchoring the 4 PM newscast on WMBD and co-anchoring with Kimberly Eiten the station’s 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. shows.

Welp’s News Director isn’t thrilled, he’s “beyond thrilled.”

“Mark brings a consistency to the anchor desk here at WMBD/WYZZ that I believe news viewers crave,” said Shaun Newell said. “He has called Central Illinois home for over 14 years. ... I am beyond thrilled to see him move to the evening anchor desk.”

Replacing Welp in the mornings is Matt Sheehan, who most recently was the stations’ Saturday news anchor and producer. Sheehan’s first-morning appearance was Monday.
