Adding News in The Valley of the Sun

Sources tell FTVLive that Scripps is looking to add news to the newly acquired KASW in Phoenix.

Scripps got KASW from Nexstar as part of the Tribune deal. Scripps already owns KNXV in the market and KASW gives them the sought after duopoly in the market.

A look at the Scripps job page and you see a number of news jobs in the Phoenix market. Word is that KNXV will soon be producing a newscast over on KASW.

While this will give the sales department more spots to sell political advertising, there are already newscasts on KNXV, KTVK, KPHO, KAZT, KSAZ, KUTP, and KPNX.

Is an eighth station doing news in the same market sustainable?
