For the 4th Best person on our list for TV news in 2019, we head to Texas…

Kristie Gonzales is the General Manager for Austin’s KVUE and she is not like many TV General Managers that you will meet in this business.

First off, she is younger than most GM’s she’s a woman and she’s a minority. She also has one of the most positive attitudes you will ever come across.

She is also one of the few GM’s that have come out of marketing and not sales or news (although not nearly enough news people get picked to be GM).

Gonzales’s Twitter bio says, “Lift as you climb,” and she really does practice that. She does not act like she has all the answers and is always trying to learn more about the business as she runs the station.

Gonzales has also made herself a part of the Austin community. She works with the Chamber of Commerce and really is invested in the market.

Many GM’s are good at faking it, but Gonzales really cares about the community and her station.

She is approachable and will take the time to talk to a longtime anchor or a Journalism student trying to find their way into the business.

She is one of those GM’s that you want to work for, does not think they know it all and is a very positive person. How many GM’s do you know like that?

It’s nice to know that there is a GM that is not only good, but also humble.

It lands her on FTVLive’s Best list!
