Blowing Up the Newscast in Philly

The Firm’s Fox Philly 6PM newscast was not doing very well in the ratings, so they are blowing it up and starting over.

First off, it is no longer the 6:00 News it is simply just called “The Six” and The Firm wants it to be faster paced and they are asking viewers to send them videos and sound off on topics.

6 PM Anchor Shaina Humphries stopped by the morning to pimp the new “The Six” newscast and when she called for video showing off the new show, it wasn’t there.

Not exactly a great way to promote your new newscast.

Watch it below and you get bonus points if you can tell me what the hell Mike Jerrick has around his neck?

Maybe it’s just me, but as a viewer, I want to sit down, turn on the news and get the story from real Journalists. I don’t want to interact with the newscast, I just want the news. I also don’t care what viewer Bill from Bala Cynwyd has to say.

For some reason, TV consultants think that if you don’t let the viewers interact with the newscasts, they won’t watch.

If I want to read Twitter, I go on Twitter. If I want to watch TV, I watch TV. I have no urge to do both at the same time.

You can slap lipstick on a pig, but it’s still a pig. Fast-paced, flashy name and flying graphics are all great, but it is about the substance when it comes to news.

Having your Anchor come on the morning show and say that your newscast is sort of like TMZ, is not getting you viewers, or helping your credibility.

Maybe you should watch WPVI’s 6PM newscast and see what they are doing?

Just a thought….

Also, what the fuck is that around Mike Jerrick’s neck?!
