Nexstar To Launch National Newscast

Well, it appears that Nexstar is going to go where others have not.

The company has announced the launch of a unbiased cable newscast on WGN America.

WGN America reaches approximately 75 million U.S. TV households, will launch a live daily three-hour national newscast this Summer.

The show called “News Nation,” will air in prime-time, from 8 pm ET to 11 pm ET, and will draw on the company’s local stations to provide content.

Nexstar says that News Nation will deliver news reporting that is fact-based, impactful, educational and unbiased.

That alone will make it different than CNN, Fox News and MSNBC.

Nexstar also says they will offer up a 24 hour news channel online called newsnationnow.

“Nexstar has the largest newsgathering organization in the country, with 5,400 journalists in 110 newsrooms throughout the U.S., including capitol news bureaus in 20 states across the nation, said Nexstar CEO Perry Sook. “We get to the scene of important breaking news first and provide live coverage delivered by reporters who know the local community and can provide the proper context for what’s happening. This is a powerful combination and gives us a great foundation on which to build News Nation.” Sook added.

FTVLive applauds Nexstar for trying to give unbiased news to a nation that really needs that right now.

But, you have to wonder if this will be done as just a cheap operation that will basically re-airing local packages, or will they really try and do it right?

Time will tell.
