Back in December of 2018, FTVLive told you that longtime WDAF (Kansas City) Meteorologist Mike Thompson took the Tribune buyout that was offered to longtime high salary employees before Nexstar takes over.

But, Thompson is finding a new life after turning in his clicker and it’s on the dark side.

Thompson has won a Kansas Senate seat being vacated by the retirement of one of the Legislature's most conservative members. Thompson was chosen Saturday to replace retiring Republican Mary Pilcher-Cook. Thompson, of Shawnee, plans to fill the remainder of Pilcher-Cook's term and then run for a chance at a full four years this November.

He now has worked the two jobs where you don’t have to be right to succeed, TV Weather and Politician.
