Watch What You Say on the Way Out
There is an old saying that you never say never.
When you work in TV news and you leave a station, it might be best to say very little.
When Brandon Lee left KPHO/KTVK here are some of the comments he made to the local paper:
“In the news business, all we do is move around to gain experience,” he said. “I’ve been in the news business 18 years. I’ve earned my stripes. I’ve moved to cities where I didn’t know anybody to gain experience. It’s time for me to choose the city that I want to be in, and ideally it would be where I grew up in LA, or New York or Washington, D.C. I’m finally saying to myself I’m choosing myself, my heart, my soul first. The news thing will work itself out.”
“I’m going to continue to pursue a career in news,” he said. “I’m going through a transition period: Do I want to continue on air or do I want to go on the managerial side? Even my current general manager has encouraged me to become a news director: ‘You have a face for television but you have the mind of a news manager.’ He has really encouraged me to consider being a news director.”
“I believe my greater sense of purpose is not to be in the news, but to use my public figure — my spotlight, if you will — to help inspire people with a message of hope and recovery.”
Now he has returned to KPHO/KTVK and it makes all the things he said a bit head scratching.
Although, if I was the station’s News Director, I might keep my eye on him.
Just saying….
