Winning an Emmy While Sleeping?

Over the weekend the Rocky Mountain chapter of the Emmy’s handed out hundreds of awards to people in TV.

People that paid thousands and thousands of dollars to enter and then paid thousands and thousands of more dollars to go to a very looooooong awards ceremony.

By my count 287 Emmys were handed out on Saturday night. Mind you, this was not for the entire country, just one chapter.

287!!!….now you know why FTVLive does not put much weight in the Emmys.

One of those that took home some Emmy hardware was George Davilas the News Director at Tegna’s KPNX in Phoenix.

The Emmys instated a new rule that News Directors were no longer allowed to include their names on Emmy submissions. So, you may be wondering how Davilas, a News Director and a member of the Board of Governors for the Rocky Mt. Chapter, was able to win?

He did so, by listing his title as Producer and not News Director.

KPNX won an Emmy for their coverage of the death of Trooper Tyler Edenhofer. Davilas was listed as a “Producer” on that story.

But, as FTVLive told you in a Patron Only story, a station insider says he wasn’t even in the building. The station source that worked on that very story tells FTVLive this, “George Davilas had nothing to do with the Edenhofer morning show that was nominated. He was at home sleeping. In fact, George didn’t even acknowledge our work during the morning meeting,”

Yet, Davilas picked up an Emmy this weekend for that very story.

FTVLive has hered from a number of people in the KPNX newsroom that are not happy and are crying foul on Davilas crafty way of getting his name on the nominations.

We asked Tegna to investigate, but we don’t think they ever did. Station insiders that were involved with some of the nominated stories tell FTVLive that no one from Tegna contacted them to ask questions.

This year, Davilas remained very quiet on his social media as the awards were handed out.

We have to wonder if that was a guilty conscience?
