Is That Right?

In its mandatory reporting to the SEC about CEO to employee compensation ratios, Nexstar's numbers seem a bit odd.

In 2018, the company reported that the median employee pay was just above $38,000. Now in 2019, the Nexstar report shows that the median employee pay has risen to just above $48,000.

Talking with many Nexstar employees, none have gotten a $10,000 raise. Most said they were lucky to get a 1 and a half percent raise.

Now, if Nexstar had taken over the Tribune station, then the $10,000 bump would make some sense. Those stations are in larger markets and obviously the people working at those stations make more money.

In the filing, the compensation includes 401K benefits, maybe that's the reason...Nexstar had cut its 401k contributions to basically nothing, and restored them to slightly in 2018.

Anyway, if you’re a Nexstar employee and you got a $10,000 raise or more last year, we would love to hear from you.

All that being said, Nexstar's employee median compensation is still lower than Tribune, Tegna, and Sinclair.
