Starting early next month, Meredith’s WFSB in Hartford is going to be adding another newscast to the mix.

The station says that starting on September 9th, WFSB will be adding a 4:30PM newscast.

“With the addition of Eyewitness News at 4:30, WFSB is better positioned to provide local news that our viewers want at the times they want it,” said WFSB-TV Vice President /General Manager Dana Neves. This newscast furthers our commitment to leading the way with local news and weather on all platforms.”

“Eyewitness News at 430 will be broadcast and streamed live from the WFSB newsroom” said Executive News Director Keith Connors. This will allow us to be on top of the latest breaking news along with up-to-the minute Early Warning weather and in-depth coverage of all the news that matters to Connecticut viewers.”

What neither the GM or the News Director point out is that this will add more commercial spots for campaigns that are looking to buy spots in newscasts.

Many stations are adding newscast to make more spots available to the 2020 campaigns that look mainly to news when buying commercial time.

The news release from WFSB does not say how many, if any more bodies they will add to the newsroom to take on the new newscasts.

My guess is 0 to 1 new person.
