Early on Friday afternoon, FTVLive posted this tweet to Twitter:

A solid source had told us that WVUE (New Orleans) Anchor Nancy Parker was one of those victims in the crash. The names of the victims had not yet been released and many of Parker’s family members and friends did not know that she was one of the victims.

It was a time that FTVLive had no urge to be first and quite frankly, we hoped that our source was wrong. But, deep down, we knew it was true and so very sad.

Later it was announced that Parker and the plane’s pilot had died in the crash. Parker had been at WVUE for more than 20 years.

She was loved in her newsroom and in the New Orleans market. She leaves behind her husband and three children. She wrote a couple of children’s books and volunteered in the New Orleans community.

The newsroom at WVUE is in shock.

Newly named NABJ President, Dorthy Tucker released this statement, “NABJ sends heartfelt condolences and prayers to the family, friends and colleagues of Nancy Parker,” said Tucker. “Nancy was an important voice for the community and was dedicated to the craft of journalism. She was passionate about telling impactful stories, and we extend open arms of support to those who knew and loved her.”

Parker was 53 years old.

FTVLive sends our condolences to her family, friends and the staff at WVUE.
