Signing Off in Houston
/KHOU “multiskilled journalist” Josh Marshall is leaving the Tegna station as he once again is going to be deployed.
Marshall serves in the National Guard and has decided after this deployment, he is not going to return to the station.
Here is the internal memo that went out to the staff and was obtained by FTVLive:

Subject: A Note about our colleague Josh Marshall
Dear KHOU Colleagues,
I’m not going to bury the lede: Josh Marshall is going to be leaving KHOU – but it’s not quite as simple as that.
As many of you know, Josh serves our country as a member of the National Guard. He deployed to Afghanistan 2017-2018 and has been called to serve again with another yearlong deployment starting this fall.
When Josh was deployed previously, KHOU held his position for him and he resumed his role as an MSJ upon his return. We made Josh the same offer, to hold his position while he serves our country, but this time he has different plans.
Following his deployment, Josh is going to explore life outside the newsroom. It was not an easy decision, but it’s the right one for Josh and his wife at this point in their lives.
As one of KHOU’s very first MSJs, Josh set the bar very high. In addition to being a dedicated Journalist, Josh also brings a great attitude and a passion for the work every single day.
His example is contagious. In his time with the station Josh has made our newsroom better.
Josh is ALWAYS welcome back at KHOU. It is my personal (re: selfish) hope that he finds his way back to broadcast Journalism in the coming years.
In the meantime, I hope you’ll join me in celebrating Josh’s work at KHOU and in the Houston community, to thank him for his service to our country and, most importantly, in wishing for a safe deployment and return home.
Josh’s last day with KHOU will be Friday, August 16th.
Bobby
