Police Chief Calls Out Tegna Station

Yesterday, FTVLive told you how Tegna’s KPNX did not “Verify” a story before sending it out to viewers and it created quite a bit of backlash for the station and the Tempe Police Department.

This is the tweet that KPNX sent out:

People were outraged that police would be pulling people over for not breaking the law.

The story went viral and cops were busy trying to tell people that was not what was happening.

It got to the point, that Tempe Police Chief Sylvia Moir sent out a tweet saying that the TV station was wrong.

This is one of those stories that took on a life of its own and will have an impact on the station’s credibility for years.

KPNX is been beating on their branding of, "12 News: It's a Matter of Facts"

Maybe Tegna should stop asking viewers to post their mood in a GIF and get the facts nailed down before doing a story.

Just saying…..
