Now, That One is Gone as Well

On Monday, FTVLive told you the creepy story about KUTV (Salt Lake City) morning news Reporter Morgan Saxton and how she joined the website Rave, which allows people to pay money to online chat with their favorite "celebrities", which apparently include local morning news reporters from Salt Lake City.

After FTVLive posted the story, it seems that Saxton’s bosses at Sinclair think this was a good look for their Reporter and she pulled the post that pointed people to her online venture.

Then yesterday, FTVLive told you how she had another post up on Facebook that included video of her and her husband running a contest for Facebook “likes” that the winners would go to dinner with the couple.

In that story, we wrote, “here’s that video and this one has a better chance to making it past the Sinclair bosses, but we still give it a 50% chance it will get pulled as well. So watch it while you can.”

Well guess what? That video also got yanked as well.

You see, Morgan Saxton is supposed to be a Journalist, but she apparently thinks she’s a Kardashian.

Having people pay money to chat with you online and contests to accompany her to dinner is not a professional look for a real Journalist.

By the way, The CEO of the company that hosts the online chat emailed FTVLive to say that his business was not a porn site. We never said it was, we said it had that feeling, when people are paying by the minute to chat over webcam.

The company is called Rave and while we think it is great that people can chat with an Actor, a YouTuber or a singer one one one, Journalists should not be celebrities.

The CEO of Rave is John Foote and in his email to FTVLive he writes, “In fact, as you are probably aware, for decades, many local journalists—many of whom have other roles, e.g., dads, moms, soccer coaches, board directors, etc.—for decades have emceed events for organizations and paid largely for the time they spend.”

Ummmm…. I’m sorry John, but for decades I worked in TV news, I was a Reporter and later a News Director that oversaw those Reporters.

They are not paid and surely are not paid “largely” to emcee events.

It is called community involvement and the talent is rarely if ever paid.

As for Morgan Saxton, I think she is just a bit misguided as to what being a TV News Reporter is?

It is not about celebrity, it’s about Journalism.

Maybe she got into TV news “to be on TV,” or maybe her bosses have not explained to her how the job works?

But right now, this country needs Journalists that can report the news, do so unbiasedly and dig into stories.

We don’t need another Kardashian, there are more than enough of those already.
