And Now CBS Falls Off DirecTV
/The Nexstar stations have been off DirecTV for days and now the CBS stations have joined them in the retransmission abyss.
CBS O&O’s fell off the DirecTV lineup early this morning as the two sides argue just how much of your money they should take and divide up, so you can watch their shows and commercials.
CBS urged viewers to look at other ways to watch their stations.
AT&T, who owns DirecTV released a statement saying they, “offered to pay CBS an unprecedented rate increase and the highest fee we currently pay to any major broadcast network group. CBS has refused.”
As stations see viewership shrink and advertising dollars drop, they want to make the money up in retransmission deals.
For most stations and ownership groups, retransmission became the goose that laid the golden egg.
But now, stations are prepared to kill the goose has they demand viewers pay more and more to watch their channels. At a time, when more and more streaming services are being offered.
In the end, DirecTV and the CBS stations will come to an agreement. Details of the deal will not be released and then in a few months, DirecTV customers will see their bill rise yet again.
The goose is now gasping for air.
