Norah O’Donnell finally took over the reigns at CBS Evening News, but she started off with a whimper in the ratings.

Despite a cross country publicity tour, O’Donell’s opening night numbers were not that impressive.

Her first show in the big chair brought in 5,608,000 total viewers and 929,000 in the demos.

Compare that to the same day last year when Jeff Glor was anchoring the Evening News, it pulled 5,693,000 total viewers and 886,000 in the demo.

While the numbers were close to the same, you would have thought the hype and promos would have given CBS a boost.

Of course, this is just one night and CBS say they are in it for the long haul.

Time will tell if the viewers like the change.
