It used to be, that in order to go live from thousands of miles away, you needed to have a satellite truck to provide the uplink.

Now, it can be done with a backpack and a cellphone.

Sources tell FTVLive that PACSAT, satellite uplink services, is closing up their Sacramento operations at the end of the month.

Pacsat was started by former NBC reporter Steve Mallory in 1988 and have offices in Sacramento and Austin. They also run the Sacramento Television News Service out of the California State Capitol.

No word how many employees this will affect?
