From Anchor to Freelancer in Hartford
/Longtime WFSB Morning Anchor Irene O'Connor is signing off after the book a will become a freelancer at the station.
O’Connor joined the station in 2005 and talking about her move to freelance, she said she is doing it to….go ahead say it with me….spend more time with her family.
"My big announcement from this morning! Starting on June 1st, I will be changing my role here at Channel 3. I will be leaving the morning show and coming back to work here at Channel 3 freelancing and filling in on different shows. It was a very difficult decision to make, but my sons just turned 10 over the weekend and they need my attention more than ever. I will be able to take them to school now. I will miss my TV family so much, we truly are a family. Thank you to all the viewers for making our show #1 over the years. I love you all!"
So, if you’re keeping track, 9 year old kid does not need the attention like a 10 year old kid….right?
In her goodbye (or whatever) O’Connor brings up the ratings (they are No. 1) and talks about how viewers love seeing her with her co-anchors.
It’s almost like she was talking straight to management at WFSB.
A cynic might think that this move was not all her choice.
But, of course we know that local TV news is completely transparent and that is not the case.
Here’s her sign off:
