Adding News in The Land

Tegna’s WKYC in Cleveland announced that they are adding a new 5PM newscast, which they have titled “What’s New.”

The new newscast will be anchored by Jay Crawford and Betsy Kling and will debut early next year.

Right now, Crawford is anchoring the midday news called “Lunch with Jay Crawford” in which Jay pretty much eats alone. That show is in dead last in the ratings.

As for the new 5PM newscast? Tegna has to be delusional to name a show “what’s new” when every other station in the market has a 5pm news and you are the fourth station to do so.

Instead of calling it “What’s New” why not just call it, “We’re late, but we’re here”? Or, just call it, “It’s an election year and we need the money”.

Or, “Lunch Break is a disaster, so let’s try it at 5pm”?
