This Raleigh, NC is the gold standard when it comes to station doing digital. It is a good bet that WRAL has more people on their digital team than any other station in the country.
WRAL is owned by Capitol Broadcasting Company and has been since its inception. While stations seem to getting bought and sold at an break neck pace, this station has only ever had one owner.
WRAL has always been ahead of the game when it came to technology. In fact, WRAL was the first in the U.S. to broadcast a live sports program in high definition (on September 6, 1997), as well as the first HD newscast (on October 28, 2000). They were the first station in the state to get a news chopper.
The station broadcasts 39½ hours of locally produced newscasts each week (with 6½ hours on weekdays, 3 hours on Saturdays and 4 hours on Sundays).
WRAL.com received the inaugural award in Advanced Media for Interactivity for the video player used throughout the website.
