Staring December 2nd, Tegna’s WXIA in Atlanta is going to fill primetime with news (or what Tegna considers news).

WXIA will be using sister station WATL and do a newscast at 8PM, 9PM and 10PM.

Jeff Hullinger and Jennifer Bellamy will co-anchor the 8 p.m. hour. Ron Jones and Aisha Howard will co-anchor the 9 p.m. hour.

“It was an outgrowth of surveys we did with our staff,” said general manager John Deushane. “It kind of makes sense.” He isn’t sure if anybody else in the nation does all prime time local news programming.

I’m guessing that Deushane has not heard of KCAL in LA which has been doing this for years.

The station says they will be adding staff, but does not say how many they pan on hiring.
