Is Norah O’Donnell Pushing for the Big Chair at CBS?
/Could CBS Morning News Anchor Norah O’Donnell have her eyes on Jeff Glor’s job?
If you believe the New York Post’s Page Six they seem to think so.
The gossip column writes that O’Donnell irked her co-workers at CBS News by hiring an outside publicist, and sources say it’s part of a push for Jeff Glor’s anchor job on “CBS Evening News,” following many months of speculation that Glor is on his way out.
“She is as transparent as glass,” one insider told me. “She has always wanted that job.”
Top TV anchors historically have a publicist on staff, employed by their network. It is unusual for an anchor to hire an outside publicist.
Sources said various candidates were interviewed before p.r. veteran Cindi Berger, chairman and CEO of PMK*BNC, was hired.
But a source close to O’Donnell told me that Berger was hired to promote her cookbook and her philanthropic efforts on behalf of skin-cancer research, as a melanoma survivor herself.
“She has one of the greatest jobs in the world, and we have never had a conversation about the evening news,” the source said.
The source added that O’Donnell, who has been at CBS since 2011, is beloved by her co-workers, and challenged Page Six to find one colleague willing to say anything negative about her on the record.
Sources tell FTVLive that there are changes expected to happen at CBS Morning News, but as to the scoop that O’Donnell will push Glor out? Our sources can not confirm that.
