Longtime KCCI (Des Moines) News Director Dave Busiek says that he is going to retire.

But, he is not giving his two weeks notice, Busiek announced that he is going to hang it up at the end of the year.

He is only the third news director in the station’s history.

"I feel so fortunate to have had such a long career at one station. Thirty-nine years at the station, with 29 of those as news director, is pretty rare in a competitive field like TV news. The only reason that could happen is because of the talented journalists at KCCI, and the support of our owners Hearst Television, and the other managers at KCCI," Busiek said.

"Dave has built and continues to build award-winning teams of journalists who break news every week, excel at uncovering truth, and holding the powerful accountable in central Iowa. His integrity and leadership continue to be an example for us all," KCCI General Manager Brian Sather added.
