Shhhhhh..... It's Anchor Fight Club
/FTVLive told you FIRST and EXCLUSIVELY that that two Anchors from WSAZ in Charleston, WV got into an altercation at a local bar.
Anchor Erica Bivens (top) and Weather Anchor Chelsea Ambriz (Bottom) got into the altercation and it ended up sending Bivens to the hospital and has the police recommending charges against Ambriz.
If the first rule of Anchor Fight Club is not to talk about Anchor Fight Club, then WSAZ is doing a good job.
The station has not addressed the story on-air, online or even in their own newsroom. Management is not talking and had hoped that no news of the bar fight would filter its way out.
Sources tell FTVLive that both Anchors are off the air while the station "investigates" the matter. But as one staffer wondered, "I'm not sure sure it is an investigation, more than a cover-up."
FTVLive was even contacted by the Charleston Police Department, asking us how we obtained the police report which is not yet a public record? The police were very polite in their request and showed full respect for freedom of the press and our obligation to protect our sources.
While the Charleston Police seem to be straight forward in their handling of the case, WSAZ seems not to be.
What if the Charleston Mayor and the Police Chief got into a bar fight? Do you think WSAZ would cover the story, or just leave it alone and hope that it "goes away"?
They would be all over that story like white on rice.
A TV station should be just as transparent in dealing with their own as they would be dealing with public officials. Their Anchors are in the "public eye" and that makes them fair game.
Let's hope that WSAZ and Gray start seeing that and start being a bit more open when it comes to their own.
Just saying....
