Pretending to be a Journalist

Political opinions are just like assholes, everyone has one.

But, as a Journalist it is part of you job to keep your political opinions to yourself and stay objective as possible.

With that in mind, let's introduce to to WEYI/WSMH (Flint) Producer Hannah Wiegand. This was Wiegand's Facebook cover photo:

Without reading a single post on Wiegand's Facebook page we already have a good idea as to where she stands politically.

On her Twitter page where she uses the name Hannah Jensen, her bio claims that she is the "next Kellyanne Conway" along with saying she is a News Producer and a MAGA girl.

Now, Wiegand, Jensen, or whatever name she wants to use, will likely not get in trouble with her bosses for putting her political leanings on display and showing the fact that when it comes to objectivity, she apparently doesn't have any.

You see, the stations she works at in Flint are owned by Sinclair. And, despite the fact that Sinclair's VP of News, Scott Livingston sent out a memo to the news staff at the Sinclair stations about showing their political bias, she's on the "right" side, so she'll be fine.

But what if one day, Wiegand, Jensen (whatever) wants to work a "real" media company that covers news objectively?

I would think that she has goals of moving onto a bigger market besides Flint. If she does, she might want to brush up on her Journalism 101 class when it comes to bias.

Then again, if you're going to be the next Kellyanne Conway, I guess it does make a difference.

Let's hope other Producers in this business have set the bar a bit higher than being the next  Kellyanne Conway.

Just saying....
