The street outside Nexstar's WTEN in Albany was shutdown after the station said it was delivered a suspicious package.

The Albany Times Union writes that although there was no evidence the package was dangerous, police took standard precautions in handling it, Albany police spokesman Officer Steve Smith said.

Assignment editors called police at about 10 a.m. to report they'd received a package from "someone known to them" at about 6:15 a.m., Smith said.

"There was some writing on the package that was of concern and a rope hanging out of the package that said, 'Do not cut,'" he said. "So, given the nature of the package and in light of incidents across the country, especially the most recent one (at a Maryland newspaper), we wanted to err on the side of caution."

Albany police, State Police, FBI and Albany firefighters responded to the station, located on Northern Boulevard just south of Albany Shaker Road.

"Through an investigation we determined it was an umbrella but it was hand delivered this morning at 6:15, which is certainly out of the ordinary, and (passed) directly through an open window," Smith said.
