Former WDIV Anchor Carmen Harlan is finding fashion in her life after TV news.

Harlan retired from TV news in 2016, is moving into the fashion arena.

She is getting ready for an invitation-only launch party April 28 in Detroit for her take on the perfect shirt.

Harlan has been collaborating with New York-based designer and fashion consultant PingPong Khumwan of Maison Khoomwan on the clothing collection.

"Everything looks wonderful. The blouses are beautiful," Harlan said Friday. "I can’t say enough good things about them."

According to Harlan, she wanted to do the start-up as "my way of giving back to a city that supported me in so many ways. If they love this shirt as much as I think they will, we’re going to have some fun."

Harlan continued: "It is definitely a Detroit shirt. Every woman needs one in her closet, believe me. It’s one of those go-to pieces."

Since leaving WDIV, Harlan's presence has remained strong in Detroit. She is the voice of on-board announcements for city's QLINE streetcar, which launched last year. And she and rapper Big Sean were co-grand marshals of the 2017 edition of America's Thanksgiving parade.

For Harlan, bringing her style sense to a start-up is a whole new ballgame.

"I’m discovering I have talents I didn’t know I had," Harlan said. "I'm supposed to be retired and I’ve been anything but. Now I'm losing sleep."
