Did You Know That Everyone Wants to Work in Norfolk TV News?

A lot of big stories happen in Norfolk and everyone wants to work there.

At least according to WAVY News Director Mark Kurtz.

“When we have an opening, I get a lot of interest from reporters elsewhere. This is a market that many in our business seek out. Lots of big stories happen here. We enjoy a great quality of life.”

He also adds that the station's helicopter is what helps get people to sign their contract.

“When newcomers who are thinking about joining us see the helicopter on the pad, that usually seals the deal,” said Kurtz.

Kurtz also adds that he has a news gathering drone he can show off, too.

You know, because you can't go to Best Buy and get your own for a couple of hundred bucks.

Kurtz bragging appeared in a story in the Virginia Pilot about some TV newsies that are coming to the market. Including Aleah Hordges (pictured) who will be joining WTKR from a station in Houghton, Mich., listed in market No. 180.

We have some news for Mark Kurtz, when you are in Houghton, Mich and market 180, you are willing to move to just about any station in a bigger market.

Despite if there is a helicopter outside or a drone behind the News Director's desk.

Just saying...
