Life After News
/After 42 years on the air in Chicago TV, 34 of them on WLS longtime Weatherman Jerry Taft signed off for the last time.
Like many retirees, Taft moved to Florida, but he hasn't quit working.
He's no longer on the air, Taft has landed a gig driving for Uber.
Taft banked big bucks in Chicago and he says his Uber job has nothing to do with the money. “You can only play so much golf,” Taft said from his Naples winter home. “It’s not about the money — it’s about getting out of the house and talking to people.”
Taft earned $84.61 in his 5 hours and 40 minutes on the road in his Ford Fusion on Tuesday. Nobody recognized him, he said, “and I promise I didn’t talk about the weather once.”
After Taft tweeted about his new ride-sharing gig, critics told him he could have made just as much money working at Walmart. But Taft said, “If I worked at Walmart, I’d have to work on their schedule.”
Now he plays a round of golf and then gives people rides to where they are going.
Not a bad life after TV news.
