Life After TV News
/WREG (Memphis) Sports Director Glenn Carver is leaving TV news, but he will still be dealing with packages.
Carver is signing off at the end of the Feb. book to start working with FedEx.
No, he won't be delivering packages, he'll be working as a communications adviser for the company.
"My kids, who are 12 and 8, I have not seen them grow up at all," Carver said. "I looked the other day and my son was almost as tall as I am.
"I haven't seen that growth at all. I haven't experienced it. They're at school, I'm at work."
Over 3 decades at the station and Carver says he's leaving for his family. "I've accomplished everything I've wanted to in television. I still love it, absolutely love it," Carver said. "... But it's a sacrifice (for family life), and you would only make that sacrifice if you truly loved it."
Ron Walter, the station's general manager, said Wednesday they have not made a decision regarding any personnel changes in conjunction with Carver leaving. Mike Ceide is the station's other sportscaster.
Walter acknowledged Carver brought a stability to their news team and provided insight not only in his area of expertise, but also in conjunction with local news stories because of Carver's knowledge of his hometown.
"During that period, he's been a dependable voice, a smart voice," Walter said of Carver's tenure with WREG, adding he is a "good colleague and a good friend" to others at the station.
