The Dean of Boston Television is Dead

Some sad news out of Bean Town...

Jack Hynes, who was known as the dean of Boston television, has passed away at age of 88.

The son of John B. Hynes, the mayor of Boston in the 1950s, Jack Hynes chose a career in media rather than following in the footsteps of his father.

Much of Hynes’ career was spent at WCVB, where he worked for 26 years along some of Boston’s biggest names in local TV, including Natalie Jacobson, Chet Curtis and Dick Albert.

“We are deeply saddened to learn of the death of Jack Hynes,” said Bill Fine, WCVB President and General Manager.

“Our treasured Dad passed away peacefully this afternoon. He was 88 years old and the center of our lives. We take comfort in knowing that our Dad’s spirit and resilience never wavered as he faced his health challenges," stated Jack’s son, Barry T. Hynes.
