Morning Wood

At 3AM on Thursday morning, WDTN Anchor Lauren Wood gave birth to a baby girl.

The healthy baby named Lydia came into the world weighing 7 pounds, 10.6 ounces and was 21 inches long.

The station posted the “news” on their website and started with this line that stations often use when their talent has a baby, “There's a new addition to the 2 NEWS family.”

Really?

Is little Lydia part of the the 2 News family?

Where does she pick up her first paycheck? What is her schedule? Who does she report to?

Also, if Lauren is fired or leaves the station, is Lydia still part of the 2 News family?

The Anchor had a baby, the baby is now part of the Anchor’s family, she is not part of the station, unless you hire her.

I’m picking on WDTN, but you guys know that this is common at so many stations. You here it on the newscast time and time again, “We have a new addition to the 2 news family.”

No! You’re Anchor had a baby. The baby is not part of the 2 news family and stop trying to make it sound like she is.

I have no idea if a TV consultant is responsible for this trend, but whomever it is, you are not welcome in my family, my house or even my damn neighborhood.

OK….I’m getting down off my soapbox now with this final thought:
