Sadly, too many people working in TV news found themselves locked in a cancer battle in 2017.

Many won that battle and kicked cancer's ass and sadly some did not.

WTAE Pittsburgh Anchor Kelly Frey told viewers 11 months ago that she was battling breast cancer. She spent the next year walking viewers through the steps of her treatment. She shared her battle first hand and although it was all about her, she was sharing the news to help others.

She posted live videos without her hair. She talked about how crappy she felt after treatments and she did it all with a smile on her face.

Frey showed that she is stronger than any man twice her size. She took on a giant and beat it.

Many people would have gone silent and gone off the air while taking on this fight. Frey continued to work and continued to educate viewers about just how nasty cancer is and can be.

How she stayed so upbeat during this process, we'll never know. But she did it and people that watched this journey could not help being encouraged.

She wasn't the only TV news person that battled cancer in 2017, but you will be hard to find anyone that did it with so much class.

And that lands Kelly Frey in the No. 4 spot on FTVLive's Best list.
