Don't Say We Didn't Tell You

FTVLive has been writing for months, asking why TV stations put so much weight into Facebook, a platform in which they have no ownership or control.

Well, it finally appears that others are agreeing with what FTVLive has been saying.

Fox boss Rupert Murdoch stirred the waters by saying that he thinks Facebook should pay "trusted" publishers if it wants to carry their news stories and videos, much like a cable company pays networks for their channels.

Of course, we know how that worked out.

Retransmission fees made TV stations and networks a ton of money, but it has also grown cable bills to such heights that people are just cutting the cord and giving up.

If Facebook starts paying TV stations, networks and publishers for their content, how long before Facebook starts wanting to charge their users to access it?

But, what if Facebook said, how about this? You pay us a fee each month and we will make sure your content is front and center of your viewers.

As you can see, you could argue this either way.

AdAge quotes a media executive that said this, "We're really getting tired of Facebook," the Exec said, "They are constantly changing and iterating. And with the lack of monetization opportunities, it's gotten to the point where we have to wonder where this partner fits into our future."

And isn't that exactly what FTVLive has been telling you for months.

It's time for TV stations to move away from Facebook. Stop putting the money and the time on a website you don't own.

Focus on your own site.

Almost all TV stations websites suck.

Take the time and effort to fix it and you won't have to be at the whim of Mark Zuckerburg anymore.
