Hard Out From Work?

This is the internal email that was sent to the staff at News 12 The Bronx.

Between "hard outs" from your job and getting "launched", I'll admit, I'm starting not to understand Today's TV news.

Here's the memo obtained by FTVLive:

Reporters, Anchor/Reporters,

If you have a hard out to make an appointment after work, it needs to be pre-approved by a manager. This isn’t anything new. It’s just something that isn’t happening with everyone. I still make sure to speak with my bosses on the days that I have to leave on time or early.

Why? When we plan the day, we try to make strategic decisions on coverage. If you have a hard out, you cannot
be live in a certain show, or you cannot be assigned breaking news, etc.

Going forward, just like you reach out to me to inquire about swapping shifts, time off request, etc., please email me and cc Matt Murphy, Melissa Serrano, Theresa Kentner and Brooke Rothenberg (when she is back in mid-October) to ask if you can have a hard out on certain days. If it’s a last minute thing, email first and call me. You don’t have to volunteer why you need to leave when you do, but it can’t be something you mention when you are launched for your story and assigned deadlines.
