Texas Anchor Battling Cancer....again

KVIA (El Paso) Anchor Estela Casas told viewers that she is locked in another cancer battle.

“After reporting on breast cancer for more than three decades, I join thousands of women and men fighting against this potentially deadly disease,” a teary-eyed Casas said on air Wednesday night.

She said she was forced to see a doctor after a bump formed on her right arm when she got a tetanus shot. She said she'd lost weight and had been feeling well.

"But looks can be deceiving," Casas said. "I have bilateral breast cancer."

Casas, 55, who has long advocated for cancer awareness, was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in 2010.

Casas said she'll be taking some days off a few times a month for treatment, but noted that her commitment to her job will not change.

She's expected to undergo her first round of chemotherapy this week.

"I have turned it over to God and I would greatly appreciate your prayers at home," she said.
