San Antonio Anchor Goes Prime Time

It appears to be a first for television in San Antonio.

KSAT Anchor is getting her own prime-time series on the station called “Up Close with Isis Romero” (wonder how long it took to come up with that name?)

Romero created an hour that resembles a newsmagazine, which will allow her to stretch more in terms of storytelling.

It is a wise move by local TV station. Stations need to start producing more local content as the networks continue to bring shows straight to the consumer through streaming services.

It also appears that KSAT and Romero are taking no chances when it comes to getting ratings. Sex sells and one of the topics for the prime time special is the issue of prostitution in San Antonio.

The station says it includes emotional first-hand accounts of this world, which frequently involves drug addiction. In the report, former prostitutes open up to Romero about life on the streets.

“I’ve never produced before, but I knew I wanted to create something truly unique ... unlike anything currently on television,” Romero wrote in an email. “I produced a pilot at the beginning of the year, and just tried to build on some of the concepts and trademark qualities I wanted the program to have.”

“Up Close” has evolved a lot, she added, “and I’m incredibly happy with the way it’s headed ... It’s such a personal project for me, and I hope the public can connect, in some way, with the incredible stories and people we’ll be featuring. I’m so grateful for the opportunity.”

KSAT General Manager Phil Lane is certainly high on Romero’s approach. “We’re very proud of the breakthrough storytelling Isis has created with this program,” he wrote in the release, “and we’re excited for viewers in South Texas to see it."
