Sinclair to Match ONLY $100,000 to Harvey Relief

Yesterday, FTVLive told you that Tegna was using their stations to raise money for the victims of Hurricane Harvey. The company was using their stations to ask viewers for donations. Tegna also said that they would "match" up to $100,000 of the donations. 

A company that had a net income of almost $50 million dollars in the last quarter alone, is giving just a measly $100,000. 

FTVLive also told you yesterday that Hearst, which unlike Tegna has no stations in Texas stepped up to the plate with as much as $2 million bucks in relief money. 

It was a class move by Hearst and it shows that the company really cares and puts its money where their mouth is. 

The ABC (Disney) O&O's also stepped up with a million dollar pledge.  

So, now Sinclair, the biggest owner of local TV stations across the country has come in with their match. Sinclair, the same company that is spending billions of dollars to buy the Tribune stations is going to match contributions up to......are you ready for this? 10 million bucks.

Ha....just kidding, Sinclair is also offering up just a lousy $100 grand. 

$100,000? You could likely find that money under the seats of David Smith's Mercedes. 

Sinclair's News VP Scott Livingston sent out an email in which he suggests how stations should cover Sinclair's fund raising efforts. 

Livingston writes, below are some suggestions for Friday’s special coverage.

-Tease this effort in every newscasts (You know between the Boris Epshteyn and Buster Hyman crap)

-Produce cut-ins on Friday, September 1

-Assign anchors and reporters to promote the day of giving on FB and social

-Assign anchors and or reporters to this effort with live check drop off locations

-Create a large station banner to have viewers sign to show support (and then do what with it?)

-Invite the local Salvation Army representative in your newscasts

He ends with, "This is a powerful example of how a television station can utilize its assets to help a community in need. You are making an impact."

You would expect the biggest owner of TV stations to step up and give some big bucks, instead, Sinclair did what everyone expected and cheaped out.
