Back After the Buyout

Longtime KHOU Reporter Doug Miller was one of those that took the Tegna buyout when the company was trying to rid itself of high salaried employees.

Miller had a lot of experience covering Houston storms and when Harvey hit, he was itching to get back into the game.

"It would have been weird, sitting at home watching after chasing hurricanes all of these years," Miller told mikemcguff.com. "I feel like a retired firefighter watching a building burn...hand me a hose."

When Miller left the station last year, he said he would be ready if the big news hit.

"I've got a closet full of rain gear decorated with old KHOU logos," Miller said in 2016. "If they need me in a pinch, God help me, I'd probably still meet the live truck halfway."

Sure enough, that is what he is doing. Miller has returned to help KHOU cover the giant storm and he's not the only one. McGuff reports that Former KPRC 2 reporter Brendan Keefe, who is now the Chief Investigative Reporter at WXIA Atlanta, tells me he is returning to Houston to help out Tega sister station KHOU as well.

We're sure Tegna appreciates the help. Then again this is the same company that sent a single MMJ into the storm to cover it by herself.  So, we're guessing if Miller is willing to work for cheap, or even free, he'll always be welcome.
