Shining in the Storm
/While Harvey continues to pound east Texas, Journalists are one shining light in the storm.
KTRK's coverage has been nothing short of spectacular. They have covered the storm from all angles and despite going wall to wall, they continue to find new angles and keep viewers informed.
KPRC's coverage has also been outstanding. Sources tell FTVLive that other Graham Media stations are sending crews to help out. News crews in Texas have been running on pure adrenalin and some are starting to hit the wall. Graham is sending in reinforcements from other stations within the group.
KHOU is working under the most trying conditions. Early on, they had to evacuate the station after it started flooding and the station was off the air for 7 straight hours. The Tegna station is not relying on other stations in the group to help them out. Much of the workload is being done by Tegna owned WFAA in Dallas and KUSA in Denver. The station has been behind the 8-ball from the minute they went off the air and it will be a long recovery.
One station you are hearing nothing about, Fox owned KRIV in Houston. No one has mentioned anything about their coverage, and you have seen almost no social media buzz.
It's huge stories like this that can carve out a stations reputation for years and even decades later. While the storm continues to dump rain and the coverage is far from over, KTRK is leading the way with KPRC a close second. KHOU was dealt a big blow by being knocked off the air and KRIV has generated little or no buzz.
But, no matter which station they are working for, Journalists are putting in long hours and doing a great job trying to stay on this huge story. Many are at work, while their own homes have suffered damage.
This story is why many people got in the business. To be there when the big one breaks. You guys are doing a great job and showing people that when it comes to covering a huge story like Harvey, you are anything but fake.
Stay safe friends and keep up the fine work.
I also want to share this email that FTVLive got from a viewer in Texas. Your work is being appreciated and commended. Keep it up.
"Scott, longtime fan of your site here. I’m a lifelong resident of south texas. I have been following Harvey coverage online, whatever I could find. I have been so impressed with the performance of all of these newspeople. Not only are they reporting the story under extreme conditions. They are serving the communities affected in so many ways that are not part of their job. Trying to relay messages to families of victims. Seeing that the distressed are getting rescued, getting shelter. Getting vital information out to the public. I am very grateful to all of them at all the media outlets. This situation is far from over, but the media is showing people helping people in this time of need. And it is so good to see."
