Our Plan is we Won't Talk About Our Plans

President Donald Trump wanted to upstage the eclipse yesterday, so he decided to hold a prime-time press conference to talk the war in Afghanistan.

But, when it came time to update the American people, we got a whole lot of nothing.

"Trump gives military more leeway and says plans will no longer be announced," said CNN.

There was speculation that Trump was going to send 4,000 more troops into the 16-year war, but he never confirmed or denied that.

MSNBC's Lawrence O'Donnell might have wrapped up Trump's speech about as well as anyone could have: "At no point, tonight did the President clarify anything about what would actually change militarily for the U.S. in Afghanistan. If this speech is meant to be interpreted as an increase in troop strength in Afghanistan, it is the first time a President has announced an increase in troop strength without actually announcing an increase in troop strength."
