FCC Approves Atlanta Station Sale

That was quick.

Meredith Corporation, which owns Atlanta CBS affiliate WGCL has cleared its latest hurdle, the FCC, which has green-lighted the full acquisition of WPCH (Peachtree TV, used to be Superstation WTBS for over 2 decades, till 2007).

Turner Broadcasting, a subsidiary company of Time Warner, which is in the process of merging with AT&T, decided to sell its only over-the-air broadcast station to avoid any conflicts.

After the transaction officially closes, it'll be interesting to see whether Meredith could be planning a local news expansion, perhaps in the form of a WGCL (CBS 46) produced nightly (as in 7 nights a week) prime-time newscast, and any other local news and non-news programming expansion.
