EXCLUSIVE! Nexstar: We Can Look at Your Personal Cell Phone

FTVLive has obtained a copy of Nexstar's cell phone policy and it reads more like 1984, than a media company that is supposed to stand behind the 1st amendment.

Back in March, FTVLive FIRST told you that Nexstar was telling employees that they had to turn in their company issued cell phones.

In Septemeber, FTVLive told you that Nexstar would give employees a stipend to use their personal phones for company business.

Well now, FTVLive has obtained a copy of the Nexstar cell phone policy and it is more than disturbing.

Here is a portion of the policy:

Basically it says that Nexstar has the right to look at what you are doing, texting and calling on YOUR personal phone, if they pay you the small stipend.

So, in other words, you go to the Apple store and you buy your OWN phone. But since Nexstar took away your work phone, you are now forced to use your own phone to set up interviews in the field and make other calls that relate to your job at the station.

So, because you are using your OWN phone, Nexstar has agreed to give you $20 a month, since you are now required to use YOUR phone for company business.

But, by giving you that $20 bucks, now under company policy, Nexstar has the right to access your phone and look at what you are doing on it.

This is a media company located in the United States, even though this policy reads more like what you might find in a state-run Russian TV station.

Our advice to anyone working at a Nexstar station!

Do NOT take any money from the company for YOUR phone. Do NOT log onto the station's WiFi with your phone at work.

The idea that Nexstar's policy is giving them the right to access your PERSONAL phone is just plain wrong and is straight up unbelievable for a media company.

What you do on YOUR phone is YOUR business and not Perry Sook's.

Say no to the stipend and don't use YOUR phone for any company business.

You need to call someone to reschedule an interview? Drive back to the station and use the station's phones to conduct your business. It might cost the company time and gas money, but that's their problem not yours.

If you miss slot because you had to drive back to the station, again, that's their fault, not yours.

If Nexstar wants access to your phone, then let them provide you the phone and pay for it. Then, they can have full access.

Otherwise, hang up on them.
