Longtime WTVJ Anchor Bob Mayer left the station and the anchor desk back in 2010, but he is still doing the news on the big screen.

Mayer has found life after TV news as an actor playing a TV Anchor.

I know....it's not a stretch.

The Sun-Sentinel writes that Netflix viewers may have noticed Mayer in the second season of the streaming company’s popular drama, “Bloodline.” Standing outside the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office in Islamorada, Mayer played a fictional Ch. 14 reporter on the scene with other media.

He also played an anchor in the opening scenes of the 2013 movie, “Assumed Killer,” about a series of murders.

More recently, he landed another reporter role for a yet-to-be named Spanglish TV series pilot about paranormal hunters, which starts shooting in the region on Nov. 29.

He also auditioned to play a reporter in the FX network’s “The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story,” which debuts Jan. 17. Scenes are still being shot, but he said he hasn’t heard back yet.

“I don’t get all the parts. There is a lot of competition and, for the most part, I go up against young, really good-looking people, and a lot of them get the parts,” said Mayer, who lives in south Miami-Dade County. “I get enough to keep me in the game.”

His earliest experience playing a TV reporter was in a 1986 episode of “Miami Vice,” where he actually played himself. The episode was titled “Killshot.”

“I still get checks to this day, every few months,” said Mayer, noting the residual checks have gotten smaller through the years, to as little as $1.95. “It’s cool to get something that you did over 30 years ago.”

Odd, $1.95 seems to be the going rate for Anchors in Today's TV news.
