WOIO (Cleveland) Anchor Lydia Esparra is headed to Puerto Rico to do more than cover the aftermath of Hurricane Maria.

Esparra is headed to the island with a lot of supplies for her family that lives there.

Esparra heads to PR this week to bring supplies to her family members and to get a perspective of the damage caused by Hurricane Maria.

She says that her family lost so much during the hurricane and have been desperately in need of help.

Lydia says her relatives are short on food, water, candles, hygiene products, and other necessary items.

The Anchor collected 39 boxes of donations.

She was planning on leaving early Friday morning on a Delta flight from Cleveland Hopkins; however, there was a problem over the number of boxes she had, so she is now flying out this week on Allegiant Air.

Of course, she will also file reports for the station while she is there.
