News Director Retires After 50 Years in the Business

Rick Willis worked his last day as News Director yesterday.
Willis has spent 50 years in news, working at 12 different media outlets across 6 states. His last stop was at Spectrum News (used to be News 14 Carolina) in Raleigh.
1983 Willis was a producer on assignment at the U.S. military base in Beirut, Lebanon where Jihadists launched their first large scale attack on United States forces, killing more than 230 U.S. soldiers.
in 2001, he helped launch News 14 Carolina (now Spectrum News) and is the only News Director the station has ever had.
Now retired, Willis says that he looks forward to traveling, spending time with his wife and 91-year-old mother, and sleeping past 7 a.m. (We'd like to sleep past 3AM Rick).
